bleaching, dentist thg not possible right now coz i'm living in a hostel far frm the main city...

someone advised me to brush wid salt!!!

Reply:Try using baking soda. Make a paste of it with water and using like you would regular toothpaste. I would not recommend using salt as too much salt in your diet can cause major health problems. You can buy whitening toothpaste. Healthy teeth do have some yellowing. Bright white teeth isn't good for the enamel of your teeth.

I don't use whitestrips. They work (I used Crest Whitestrips once before my wedding almost 4 years ago), but they made my teeth too sensitive.

Here's my routine:

In the morning:

I swish a mixture of one capful hydrogen peroxide and one capful water in my mouth for a few minutes (usually 2 or 3 minutes, but I try to do it as long as possible up to 10 minutes).

I brush my teeth thoroughly.

I rinse with Listerine (as directed on bottle). I've noticed the Listerine hardly "burns" at all after the peroxide rinse.

Before bedtime:

I floss (This is so important!!! Floss everyday!!!).

I brush my teeth.

(I don't usually bother with rinses at night, but it couldn't hurt.)

Here are other habits I have that keep my teeth consistently white:

I don't smoke.

I drink plenty of water (about the amount of 4-6 bottles a day).

I rarely drink coffee, tea or soda (maybe once or twice a week). If you do drink coffee, tea or soda, make sure to drink some water immediately afterward or at least rinse out your mouth. These drinks will stain your teeth quickly!

I chew sugar-free gum like Trident or Extra after meals/snacks.

Reply:hmm.. avoid drinking tea (including iced tea) and softdrinks (it contributes to make ur teeth more yellowish).. i researched about that before coz i wanted my teeth to be whiter, too.. and now, i don't drink softdrinks anymore for 2 years.. i drink iced tea occasionally.. when there's no water or juice in the store, i choose iced tea :)

u can also use Colgate Total toothpaste. it contains flouride that helps to make ur teeth whiter... when u will use other chemicals, especially the over-the-counter ones, make sure u ask ur dentist first.. because there are some products that are dangerous, making ur teeth thinner when u use them continuously

The only way to get your teeth super white is by bleaching or veneers. Whitestrips do not wear tooth enamel away. I'm a licenced dental hygienist and I use them all of the time. They do cause sensitivity though but it goes away. That is the cheapest route. The next step up is bleaching trays and in office whitening which is expensive and not worth the cost for the instant gratification. Whatever you do do not go crazy with whitening toothpaste. This really does wear down enamel over time, esp. if you are scrubbing because you don't like the tooth color. All that makes toothpaste"whitening" is just abrasive stuff. Then you scrub off the enamel to expose the dentin which is naturally yellow in color. Sorry to ramble but I see this every day.

Try mixing baking soda with some hydrogen peroxide, it will bubble some and then brush your teeth with it. It won't be store-brand effective, but it works! Don't swallow!

My teeth hurt worse than anything I have ever felt in my life after Crest Whitestrips Supreme, any tips?

Day 1: Two strips top and bottom for the time directed, 30 minutes each. My teeth ached the entire night and my gums were swollen. I know the bleach is stronger than the whitestrips you can buy in the store (Supreme can only be purchased from a dentist), but this kills! I don't know if I will make it the 21 days that the kit offeres with this stronger bleach.

Any tips besides sensitive tooth toothpaste and Act mouthwash to fill in areas of my teeth?

On the plus side, there are noticible results after just that one day with this stronger kit! Normallly I don't see results like this until day 3 of the Premium strips. I only do these once a year by the way just to brighten up my smile a bit, and I see my dentist twice a year for cleanings :)

The directions say that I can skip a couple of applications but that I should use all the strips in as close to 21 days as possible... so stopping until the pain goes away or wearing them every other day really won't work.

Reply:YEAH I STOPPED USING THOSE CAUSE THEY HURT REALLY REALLY BAD. BUT THEY TEND TO HURT WORSE ON THE BOTTOM TEETH, SO I JUST PUT THEM ON THE TOP ONES FOR A WHILE =)
Reply:You could try asking your dentist for fluoride gel. It might be stronger than Act. I know what you mean though, it hurts! Definitely try using them every other day.
Reply:i would stop using them. I have crest whitestrips, and they bothered my teeth a bit but they didn't swell my gums. I know crest offers a hotline for the whitestrips, and if you call who knows, you might be able to get a refund while your at it. But be careful, you could have an allergic reaction.

Swishing peroxide in your mouth before brushing helps as well as using a good whitening toothpaste. Aslo lemons or pure lemon juice rubbed on your teeth or swished in your mouth but make sure that you brush thoroughly afterwards because continual use of lemon without removing it from your teeth can actually take the enamel off.

Reply:Well, the only way to get eye-popping whiteness is to go seek professional treatment, but there are toothpastes which will give you a near result. Try Pearl Drops, or Maclean's White and Shine, or Crest Whitestrips. Check out your drugstore for heaps of whitening product varieties.

Start by flossing very well, then brush with hydrogen peroxide for a few minutes. Follow that by brushing with regular toothpaste. When I did this i noticed a difference in 3 days. In fact, my teeth got a little too white. Crest white strips have a slightly higher concentration than the regular hydrogen peroxide in a bottle. Don't spend 30-40 dollars for white strips, or hundreds for dental treatments when you can get the same results with a 3 dollar bottle of hydrogen peroxide.

Reply:If you use Crest strips, the ones they have take 7, 10, or 14 days, you wear 2 sets for 30 mins a day. They have one that takes 5 mins a day and it gradually whitens. Rembrant ones varies. Some until the syringe is gone or strips in 5 or 7 days. The ones from dentist (laser, trays, strips) vary. Good luck!

Actual chlorine bleach (like what you would use for your clothes) is not used to whiten your teeth. Whitening (often called bleaching) teeth is achieved with a product like crest whitestrips. Other methods for "whitening" can include wearing a custom tray (like a sports mouth guard specially made to fit) in your mouth with a gel in it or a generic tray with gel in it. A commonly used whitening gel is carbamide peroxide and has been used for many years now in the dental field. Hope that helps!

Reply:You may be thinking of the newer rinses that you swish and expectorate. They are suppose to brighten with out the use of solutions or gels, I'm not that familiar with them to be honest, and have not heard any good (nor any bad) responses about them.

Now the bleaching gel is different from the "rinse." The bleaching gel gets placed in a custom tray that has been fabricated from impressions taken of your teeth. The tray holds the solution against the facial or front portion of the teeth for the amount of time recommended for the whitening process to be achieved, which is usually 30 minutes to an hour. After that time the solution has lost it's effectiveness and can be removed, rinsed, and placed on your models or in a box for use again.

Recents studies show that:

1. "In-surgery bleaching that require only one visit are to be viewed with scepticism. Patients who had only one session had a higher relapse that those that had 2-3 sessions. Approximately half of the patients with 2-3 in-surgery sessions requested additional home bleaching to improve the result."

2. "It is possible that dehydration of the teeth could be a contributor to the whitening seen in one-visit procedures." In other words, one-visit treatment looks better initially because it dries out the teeth temporarily, but that the teeth rehydrate and change back much of the change.

So, go for the home bleaching - it will take longer, but give better results.

laser whitening can be really sensitive , my teeth went hyper senstive after for a day or so and i know my colleagues have had the same problem,

my opinion is the bleach is better then the laser, and costs less and reduces ure chance of any discomfort , easy winner in my opinion and u can stop when ure happy with the result where as the laser will bleach to a shade u have no control over

i got bleach and special bleaching trays made from the dentist...it cost about 300 dollars...but everyone knows teeth stain fast....i was curious...im out of the bleach so i was wondering if making a paste out of baking soda and peroxide and putting it in the tray and leaving that in for about 1 hour...once in a while would be ok?....would it kinda be the same as bleach....just to keep stains off my teeth....

It's not actually bleach, more likely a percentage of carbomide peroxide. The true peroxide will irritate your gums, so I wouldn't. Brushing w/ baking soda should be fine as long as the gel you used to whiten didn't make your gums sensitive. Just look at the empty tubes or boxes the dentist gave you. You can buy virtually all of it on line for much less than the dentist charges. Plus, if you went through the whole whitening regime of a couple of weeks, your teeth are not going to stain THAT quickly. Sometimes your dentist will even give you a free touch up or maintenance kit that you use every 3-6 months for a few days to maintain your new white smile after the original whitening. In the meantime- no coffee, tea, colas, wine except through a straw placed behind your front teeth. I do that all of the time anyway. It's great you are whitening your teeth. It's the first thing I notice about anyone and it makes SUCH a difference.

Reply:Your dentist should have bleach refills. I know the bleach refills at my office are only $25.00 for 4 syringes. You should call your dentist and find out how much it costs. Because making your own paste isn't going to work.

Crest white strips work for your front teeth the supreme version is the best it has like 12% peroxide where the premium only has like 3%. They can make your teeth sensitive though. Strips are kind of like painting a fence however they dont get in between the teeth. So the best option is the trays.

Has anyone used any household products to whiten their teeth like peroxide or household bleach? If so what did you use and did it work? All those whitening toothpastes don't work and I don't want to go to a dentist and pay a fortune to whiten my teeth.

First of all, it's abrasive, and it can damage your teeth. Second, aluminum is reactive. It may react chemically with the whitening gel, and create compounds that could REALLY harm your teeth, or could even be poisonous.

And third, have you ever had aluminum foil come into contact with fillings in your teeth? OUCH.

It takes time, but you can use the Crest whitestrips, use whitening toothpaste or, if you can handle the taste, use baking soda as toothpaste. I personally can't do that one - it tastes horrible to me (although it might work as a great diet aide, but that's another subject).

I started with whitestrips, then moved on to whitening toothpaste. Just be aware that your teeth may get sensitive, so have a non-whitening toothpaste to trade off with every few days.

UK dentists will offer you two types of whitening - neither of which is self-administered.

How could you take legal action against your dentist? Tooth whitening isnt a necessary procedure and it isnt paid for in most places. Here in Canada was pay for our own unless you have insurance to cover it. Yellow teeth doesnt harm you. Reply:Please be careful. Baking soda is fine, but don't overdo it - once a day for a week would be fine, but no more than once a week thereafter. It can damage your teeth.

Bleach or hydrogen peroxide can be VERY DANGEROUS! In the best case scenario, you will only lose your teeth - in the worst, go to emergency with severe burns!!! Dont' experiment with these!!!

Baking soda or over-the-counter home teth whitening products are the only two at home options.
Reply:first off if you dont give up the cigs, and alcohol then you will always be re-whitening your teeth! second giving up on those 2 bad habits will also help you and your children live a lot better. as for actual whitening......i agree with the first answer. i personally used and still use from time to time crest whitestrips...they take 7 days per top and 7 more per bottom to whiten. my teeth are near blinding white against my tan body, i couldnt be happier! the product is quite cheap and very simple to use. another option you have is taking peroxide and baking soda and putting them together and making a paste and placing it on your top or bottom row. not both at the same time! applying to both front and back of your teeth and leaving it on for about 30-45 minutes for quick results within about 1-1/2 weeks, best done at night. Or 10-20 minutes for 2-4 weeks improvement....just really depends on how much you can tolerate the paste in your mouth. To remove it simply brush your teeth with water and a whitening toothpaste of some kind. i rec'd colgate whitening, or aquafresh whitening with floruide. all very cheap and all house hold items. make sure you stay away from caffeine, coffee, smoking, drinking, and always brush your teeth about 1 hour after this procedure. Good Luck and i hope that you have a beautiful white smile in no time.

Sensitivity comes from the drying of the enamel during the bleaching process. This can be lessened by using fluoride treatments or bleaching with a higher concentration for a shorter amount of time. You can get a fluoride gel OTC (over-the-counter) at most pharmacies or your dentist. You can brush it on your teeth, or you can put it in bleaching trays or any boil and bite tray for that matter. If you have any questions, you can contact your dentist to make sure you follow their recommendations and to make sure that they approve of you doing this.

Whitening strips and bleach trays are safe for use, but like anything else, using them improperly can cause damage. It's best to follow your dentists recommendations.

I have very sensitive teeth and thin enamel, so those bleaching strips almost eat away what coating I have left, but I want to safely whiten my teeth. Any ideas? I've never seen a major different with basic whitening toothpaste. Is there a trick?

I brush my teeth with regular toothpaste. Then, I take my toothbrush, poor some hydrogen peroxide on it and brush my teeth with that- it will sting a little bit and it will get very foamy- not like the pain from the crest strips though- just more stinging around the gums but it goes away after a couple of minutes. Then rinse your mouth with water. I do this everyday and people always ask how I keep my teeth so white.

O u'll be just fine. I never done it for me but I've done it for most of my patients and they seemed to be just fine. A slight temp sensitivity for a couple of days is pretty much expected but its usually not that bad. For best result though, use a straw for coffee and red wines. It sound weird but coffee and red wines stain ur teeth very easily. Enjoy ur white teeth^_^

Your success with bleaching will be highly dependent on your teeth and the reason for their discolouration. Some teeth bleach quite well others will hardly notice a difference. Once bleached, teeth will slowly regress to their previous shade. Some people also notice that their teeth become sensitive during bleaching. They are fine. My only suggestion would be to keep them away from your gums. If you get those strips up over your gums, too, that bleach in the strips will take the skin right off of them. That hurts reallllllly bad. They'll heal, but you will have very swollen, bleeding gums for days. Just make sure the strips don't touch them--on the teeth, only.

I whitened my teeth with an at-home bleaching kit from the dentist's office and my teeth only felt slightly sensitive while doing it. Then afterwards the pain got progressively worse until it was pretty excruciating, and now its better, but still a nagging pain and sensitivity. This has been going on for HOURS now! I have been using a special sensitivity toothpaste with flouride when I brush, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I also tried tylenol and vicodin which didn't help the pain either. Does anyone know any products or remedies or ANYTHING to help get rid of or prevent tooth sensitivity? I'm supposed to use that whitening kit at least a few times to get desired results, but now I'm dreading ever doing it again after the pain. Is there anything else I can do to combat the sensitivity? Thanks.

Unfortunately, I don't remember what it was called...but it did work. If you go to the store, you'll probably find other stuff like that around the oral care section.

I was thinking about doing this using collgate liquid whitener.

But I heard it makes your teeth porus from the bleach.

How true is this?

If I do this and then drink coffee down the road, would it make things worse because now my teeth are porus and will stain even worse (even though coffee usually stains teeth on it's own, will having 'porus' teeth make it worse)?

I made the mistake of neglecting my team for most of my childhood and teen years, and now at 19 I'm looking into methods to whiten my teeth, such as in-office bleaching, bleach trays, White Strips, etc.

Does anyone have any advice on these different products, but more importantly, are they permanent?

teeth are LESS white due to coffee, tea, smoking, red wine, and just food. So AFTER bleaching, if you do any of these, your teeth will darken up a bit.

I give my patients the bleaching tray; I've been using the same pack of bleach syringes myself since 2002 (as I only touch mine up ever 3-6 months or so). That way you can just keep doing it.

If you need work, be advised...esp if front teeth need white fillings. If poss, do the bleaching FIRST then the dentist can do the work to MATCH where the bleaching got to. if you do the white fillings first, and then bleach, your fillings will not lighten!! you could get the dr to do the fillings really light and then HOPE to bleach the rest of the teeth to that level, but that's a bit shady.

-In office is really expensive cuz you're taking up chair time. I don't do this, and don't recommend it unless you're like "Oh, i'm getting married next week; what do do?"

-Trays, I think are the best, as mentioned above.

-crest strips are OK; you may notice a difference but not always super dramatic. they are better for maintaining whitening after you had it done.

Most though work about a year, this is a professional whitening. Because we eat and drink things that will put stain on our teeth, from coffee and cigs to blueberries and cola.. and we dont' always brush after each meail the stains/yellowing returns.

You might invest in a professional whitening first especially if you have been neglecting your teeth you might need work done.

btw I have used the White Strips they are okay I see some lightening but again I don't use them daily and they want you to use them for 2 weeks solid.

If you are referring to the bleach that you whiten your clothing with also know as sodium hypocloride...do not use it in your mouth. The active ingredient in tooth whiteners is hydrogen peroxide (and often carbamide peroxide). I know that they call it "bleaching the teeth" but chlorine bleach is NOT involved.
Reply:There is different percentages and types of bleach you can purchase from your dentist. You need bleaching trays for this and get 15%, and never go any higher than 20% or you will be in some pain. Under a microscope a tooth that is being bleached the pours are open to allow your tooth to get lighter. So while your are bleaching definitely stay away from the coffee because it can actually make them darker, the pop isn't good either but I haven't had too much of a problem with that.

Regular household bleach is not used in whitening the teeth. Not only will it harm your teeth but it will severly burn and damage the oral tissues. If you are wondering about bleaching your teeth that is the term that most people use when referring to whitening your teeth. It can be achieved by multiple methods like Crest Whitestrips or having custom made trays by a dentist to put a whitening gel in and then wearing over your teeth.... Please no bleach!

I use Chrest Whitestrips and I absolutely love them! Ok, but besides what I like, here's what I can tell you. Most whitening toothpastes don't work andt he ones that do work...they take too long to make a difference. Cosmetic whitening can be expensive. Chrest whitestips WORK! After using them about two times, you can tell a difference. They are kind of expensive...about $25-$35 depending on which kind you get, but they both work great. If money is your concern, try the less expensive one. It's kind of weird at first to feel something stuck to your teeth for 30 minutes. And I suggest that when you take them off you have the toothbrush with toothpaste ready. Don't lick your teeth after you take the strips off cuz the gel is NASTY! Plus...some people, not all, experience soft teeth after using it. It just feels like your teeth are soft and weak. But I never experienced that. I still use them, not everyday though. Just when I'm going out and I want my teeth to look good. Because let me tell you...yellow teeth is a BIG turn off. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I used Crest White strips and I left them on alil longer than it said to. A day after i started to get really sick? But that day I havd Smoked a blunt with my friend so I thought it might just be the weed. But I was sick 4 like a week then I went t6o the Hospi8tal and they tested me and I had BLeach Poisoning. Is it possible to get it from Those whitening strips or did something else cause my poisoning???????

The bleaching agent in tooth whiteners is hydrogen peroxide, not actual bleach, and no way you could you get that ill from leaving it on a little too long. If they told you that you have bleach poisoning, they surely meant chlorine bleach, like you would wash clothes with. It is very toxic. If you recently cleaned the bathroom with a cleaner containing bleach, and the fumes really got to you, that is probably the culprit.

My two front teeth have been bothering me for the past 2 days. I don't know why this is happening. I'm not bleaching, or whitening my teeth. Everytime I drink anything cold or hot, i get that dull sensation, and I bugs me so much! Can I just grab a pair of pliers and yank them right off? My mother-in-law says it might be my toothpaste. But i'm using BreathRx toothpaste, so its not like its anything harsh. I checked the ingredients and it has the same sodium fluoride content, or something like that. Am I going to live?

Reply:You either: 1. traumatized them by bumping them or biting down on something that is now causing them to ache, in which case they will gradually get better as long as you don't bite down directly on them (think- baby carrots, price tags, thread, anything we use our teeth for that we shouldn't), or 2. The nerve in one or both of them is starting to die. Stay away from extreme temperature foods for awhile and "baby" them by not biting down on them, and see if the nerve will calm down. It is possible that it will pass. If it gets worse you will need to get to the dentist so good luck.
Reply:With pain and sensativity like that, it it hard to say exactlly what it is, because it could be a bunch of different things.

You could have cavitys, they could be cracked, you could be getting an abcess, or you could just have some recession or wear facetts from older age(40's and up) or just brushing to hard. So what you need to do is just go to the dentist for an exam and an e-ray and they should be able to tell you what is going on and what needs to be done to fix it. That should only be around $30.00 if money is an issue.

It is toxic but it won't kill you. Worst case is over-exposure in that it will modulate your endocrine system and cause your cells to do wierd things, including grow into cancers.

So don't fret if you have already done it. Do not do it again. In fact avoid 'bleaching products' and peroxides all together as they can do the same things.

Use lemon juice on your toothbrush twice a day. Apply via a Q-tip, and sit outside in the hot sun for about 5-minutes to 'process'.

Do this until you reach the desired shade. Do not overdo it or it can eat away at your tooth enamel.

They don't work. They wear the enamel off your teeth. then you have dental problems and buy more of their products.

If you have some really important event coming up, try brushing your teeth with baking soda. It tastes gross, but it will whiten them a little.

Brushing/gargling with hydrogen peroxide works too, but it will kill all bacteria, good and bad, in your mouth. You shouldn't use this for more than ten days because after ten days you run the risk of getting a black hairy toungue. Also, make sure if you do this, to do it before bed and not in the morning before work because it will temporarily turn your gums white too (from tiny cuts).

Well, it is possible to get teeth too white. In other words they can look unnatural. Nice naturally looking bright teeth do look great though so bleach carefully but don't overdo it. And don't damage your gums!

you can use the ARM%26amp;HAMMER toothpaste that is made specially for whitening. it makes your teeth about 3 shades whiter in one tube, but while using that, you can use the crest whitening mouthwash, which works for me.

I also chew the trident gum that whitens your teeth. it'll say that it helps whiten on the front of the package!

For an extra white smile (like Oprah Winfrey) try this paste: Mix Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide in a little dish and brush with it but DO NOT swallow it. It's made ONLY to whiten teeth, not to clean them. but it really works.

I have the same issue.... I got this toothpaste from my dentist called Fluoridex, its really good for your teeth and gets them to a better color. I use it both in the morning and at night. Remember to use mouthwash after, also, if mint makes you drool, wash your mouth out between brushing and mouthwash. Well I can tell you this much about it, my mom is 72 and uses it every day. Yep she brushes her teeth everyday with it and has for years. She has pretty white teeth as well. Not only does it whiten your teeth but it also kills bacteria that is in your mouth (on your gums and teeth). For the most part, she don't really use toothpaste or tooth gels, just the baking soda. All she does is just gets her tooth brush wet with water, dips her tooth brush in the box soda (she keeps one in the bathroom) and then brushes her teeth. You can't really can't use to much of it. As a matter of fact, when she was growing up, they couldn't afford tooth paste, so the soda is what they used to brush their teeth with.

I always felt that bleaching weakens the enamel. Bleaching, which is an oxidative process, weakens structures (not strengthens) Clothes wear out faster whren you bleach them. I had a tooth bonded and the color does not match the rest of my teeth. I went in to get it fixed, yet the tooth is still slightly yellowish in color. Dentist said that my tooth was too yellow and that the resin material used could not make the tooth any whiter since the tooth was way too yellow. Has this ever happend to anyone before, and if so, what alternatives did you take to make the tooth whiter since bonded teeth cannot be bleached, whitened, etc.? Did you end up getting veneers? My dentist suggested veneers. I am afraid that the veneer is unable to cover my "too yellow tooth" and make it match my other teeth which are much whiter than the bonded tooth. Also, once an enamel is shaved to put the veneer on, will the dentist have to continue to shave the enamel every time a veneer needs to be replaced? Any information would be helpful. Thank you!

This is what I do in my practice.

First the patient gets their teeth bleached to bring the color up to where they want them to be overall.

Next, we do either a veneer or a full porcelain crown (if the tooth has been broken down) and match it to the new, whiter shade.

This is very predictable. Trying to match up shades with composite material when completely bonding a tooth that is yellow underneath can be tricky at best.
Reply:Your dentist needs to use the shade that matches all your teeth. He may not have the shade that matches all your teeth. That is why he is suggesting veneers.

If I were you, I would get a tooth whitening procedure done. So in the future, when the dentist provides the veneer that matches your teeth that are whiter, you wouldn't have to be embarrassed by the yellow tooth color. The color would be even and your smile will not make you feel self-conscious.

If you are not satisfied, you are more than free to see a different dentist. There are so many out there.

I tried those Crest Whitening Strips and they did work, but you have to stay with them and they're kinda nasty while they're on your teeth. The commercials show people walking around with them on but there is no way I could just "walk around during my day" with those things on my teeth - they foam and you feel like you have rabies. But they did help.

As to charcoal making your teeth whiter? I don't see how that would work, unless it's "polishing" your teeth by rubbing on them - and that would remove some of the enamel which is a Bad Thing. Once the enamel is gone, what's left of your teeth won't be around too long - someone will mention "chocolate" and you'll get a cavity from the sound of the word! *grin*

Actual chlorine bleach (like what you would use for your clothes) is not used to whiten your teeth. Whitening (often called bleaching) is achieved with a product like Crest whitestrips, Aquafresh trays, etc. The agent in the whitening product draws the stain caused by foods, smoking, drinking, etc out of the teeth. Other methods for "whitening" can include wearing a custom tray (like a sports mouth guard specially made to fit) in your mouth with a gel or to do in office whitening (like Zoom, BriteSmile, etc) . A commonly used whitening gel is carbamide peroxide and has been used for many years now in the dental field.

The best program for that is "Zoom" your dentist does it and it costs roughly $400....the stuff over the counter isnt strong enough but what dentists use is...I had it done after I quit smoking....made a huge difference!!!
Reply:Consult your dentist to make sure you dont have any white fillings, crowns or veneers first as they dont change colour during bleaching and may need replaced at a later stage.

Zoom is great as you have instant results. Its also the most expensive option and relapses quicker. We had a demo at our practice and after a month the guinea pigs (dentist) teeth were back to their original colour.

The practice where i work uses the nite white tray system. You take custom made trays home with you, apply some gel bleach to them and wear them every night for approx 10 nights. We charge £275 however every practice may differ. You need to do a top up every couple of months for a night or two to maintain the colour. Extra tubes of bleach cost around £25 and will give you 6 applications.

Your teeth change gradually from night to night. As it is a gradual process the sensitivity is less than using zoom. The sensitivity only lasts while you bleach your teeth, doesnt happen to everyone and isnt harmful to your teeth. Bleaching is totally safe although not recommended for use in pregnant women.

Reply:With any whitening system, sensitivity. If you use the strips, not brushing before, skip a day or wearing the top/bottom separately helps. Also allowing more time before the next sets. Instead of doing the sets back to back, do one in the morning and another at night. If you get a professional whitening, they may prescribe something to ease the pain of it. But it does subside in a few days or when as you continue the system. =)
Reply:I have bleached my teeth. It works very well. The only bad thing is it will make your teeth sensitive. You should buy some toothpaste for sensitive teeth and use it for 2 weeks before you bleach and continue to use it while you are bleaching and that will help put with the sensitivity.

One way to do this is to start with a dentist, who will make a soft plastic mould to fit snugly over the teeth and act as a gum shield. You then squeeze a bleach product into it from an applicator and wear it overnight. Overnight is best because you don't think about while you sleep, and there's less salivation at night. It cost me £275 the first time, to get the plastic mould made, and that included enough of the bleach product for daily applications for a fortnight. But you get most of the benefit in 4 or 5 applications anyway, and can just keep the rest for later top-ups. And you can buy the product for £8.50 afterwards, enough for two applications. It's good for getting discolouration and spots off the teeth, but the glowing white effect soon fades! I just use it once occasionally, for special occasions. This product is not such a powerful bleach as the one that is used in the dentists' chair with white light, which is pretty dangerous if a mistake is made, but you still can't use it without the gum shield. And in the few hours after using it, you have to be careful not to eat foods which would stain the teeth while they're vulnerable. I look forward to hearing people's experiences with less strong stuff which you can use without special precautions.

Don't use the Wal-mart brand for this! I used it once instead of the more expensive brands and it sort of burned. It also initially left my teeth spotted white! Thankfully by the time I woke up the next morning the white spots had gone away. That was scary.

some may find this odd but i was watching oprah about 2 years ago had some dentist specialist on her show on do it your slef dental and they said that f you buy MR.CLEAN magic erasor $3.99 and tear of a small piece wet it and then wipe your teeth vigorusly with it it will whiten them up signifigantly then brush immediatly afterwards my husband had a big yellow stain on his two front teeth before our wedding from smoking and i tryed it and you wouldnt even know he had a stain so maybe you could try it its good for Tons of other thing removes nail polish everything hope this helps even though it is a little bizzare but OPRAH said it so cant be that bad other wise im sure someone would have sued her by now for it

Reply:It's your choice! I have to get braces pretty soon. My orthodontist told me that after you take the braces off, it could leave some yellowish residue from where the brackets were.
