Will whitening your teeth at the dentist scrape off tooth enamel?

I'd like to maybe whiten my teeth but I'm worried that doing so will scrape off my already weak teeth?

When they whiten them, do they simply bleach them or do they try to take off the stains? for some reason i don't like the thought of just bleaching my teeth instead of getting the actual stains off.

If you have your teeth cleaned first, they will scrape off any deposits (commonly called tartar) and remove any surface

stains with instruments and then polish. If you're just doing

the bleaching, the bleach gets into the pores of the teeth and

whitens them. So it just depends on what you're having done.

And cleaning or bleaching will not harm your teeth, even if

they are already "weak".
Reply:call your dentist
Reply:no but you should get your teeth cleaned first so the bleach will go straight to the teeth, there's this new bleach called opalesence that has minerals that help the enamel to be shiny and works very fast, i saw some on ebay here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie... i used it and it made my teeth very white, only took about 40 minutes a day for 4 days
